Medusoil 2022: Growth and Impact Highlights
In 2022, Medusoil successfully industrialised its biocementation technology, delivering over 24,000L of bio-based binders across Switzerland and Europe. Our low-carbon solutions provided a sustainable alternative for ground stabilization and soil recycling on major geotechnical projects.
Major Geotechnical Projects & Outcomes
Our teams served specialized foundation and geo-environmental projects in Zurich, Fribourg, Bern, Geneva, Vaud, and Vienna. By applying biocementation—a process where natural mineralization strengthens soil—we helped contractors improve soil cohesion, friction angle, and compressive strength without the environmental footprint of traditional chemicals.

Verified Sustainability: 55% Lower CO₂
A Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) conducted with Quantis International confirmed that Medusoil’s biocement results in 55% lower carbon emissions compared to traditional cement grouting. Additionally, our technology received the CEN/TR 17105:2017 certification, validating its environmental safety for large-scale construction.
Innovation and Strategic Funding
Medusoil secured 700,000 CHF in innovation funding from Innosuisse to expand its production capacity and portfolio. We also joined a strategic consortium to tackle the recycling of 23 million tons of excavated soil from CERN’s Future Circular Collider project, showcasing the circular economy potential of our binders.
Team Growth & International Recognition
Our team doubled its production capacity to 4,000L per month and welcomed new experts in logistics and finance. Beyond the field, Medusoil co-founders were recognized at the IMD Startup Challenge and delivered a TEDx talk on the future of living materials in construction.
